The Platform    |    Android App and iOS App

The Goal

Create a first mobile app for Paju people which offers useful life information.

The Outcome

Successfully, the mobile app was released on time in spite of insufficient duration, and stakeholders and users were satisfied with the app and mentioned: “It is a great app.”

The Process & The Timeline

‌Why We Started the Project

The beautiful and sophisticated city, Paju.

Paju had invested in infrastructure tracking data of the city to manipulate it.
Paju City Hall wanted to utilize the great source for citizens which could enrich their lives.

‌Explore & Empathise

Because of the short research period, my priority of research was to find the biggest needs of stakeholders and citizens.
Furthermore, the service would completely rely on the existing infrastructure of Paju, and we needed to learn it.

A One-day trip to Paju.

Analysis of infrastructure, scheme, and systems.

Interviews with stakeholders and citizens.

We decided to focus on Paju news and bus information‌ which was a necessity for many people.

Everyone agreed that "People have had inconvenience due to a lack of precise bus information".
Even though buses have been the most used public transportation in Paju, there was no integrated service or system.
On the other hand, Paju City Hall had an emphasis on "Paju News" which consisted of city news and emergency ‌situations.

Also, we discovered usage patterns
which were used to decide content's priority and a way of displaying.

• Users tended to use five buses and five bus stops on average.
• Paju news was generally updated once a week.
• General information like the weather was out of people’s interest since there were alternative sites.

‌Envisage

We expected four major benefits by designing Paju U-Mobile Service for helpful information and better lives in Paju.

Accuracy: People could save time through accurate information.
Accessibility: Anytime, anywhere citizens could get useful information about the city.
Real-time: Paju City's distinct infrastructure construction in traffic, emergency guidelines, and entertainment ensured real-time intelligence.
Usability: Paju citizens could use the service easily regardless of age by providing familiar UX and UI.

‌Execute

How ‌can we deal with challenges and risks?
“Four companies worked together in different offices. The collaboration was challenging. We went through conflicts from scratch.”

Intimate Collaboration

We used tools and services providing immediate notifications for real-time communication.

Agile Project Management

By thorough preparation, a quick decision was made at a weekly meeting with Paju. For example, ‌the main design was immediately ‌chosen on the first version.

Accurate Communication

I made manuals at the initial stage of development in order to help project members work productively and better understand ‌different fields.

‌The Outcome

“UX and UI were designed by considering three critical factors: the priority of content, platform’s characteristics, data patterns.”

•Main View: Integrated tab menus to accommodate the most crucial three - Paju news, starred or recently viewed buses and bus stops.
•Transport: Personalized information, starred or recently viewed items.
Six lists were displayed on one screen to reflect bus usage pattern.

•Android: A tab bar at the top and side menus for Android users.
•iOS:
A tab bar at the bottom.
‌I ‌took ‌human interface guidelines of Apple and Android into account to fulfill characteristic of platforms.

A number of users left gratitude and praise on App Store and Google Play.
Moreover, I got the valuable assessment from ‌the representative of Paju City Hall‌: "It is the innovative main view."‌
