The Goal
Build a prototype of OnFit Smart Gym with a personalized program and joyful atmosphere.
The Outcome
We established OnFit Smart Gym in Daejeon with a pleasant and effective workout routine.
The Process & The Timeline
Why We Started the Project
Inevitable stress and 100-year life: health is crucial for everyone.
However, exercise in a gym has been regarded as a boring task, and hiring a personal trainer is way too pricey.
The aim of OnFit Smart gym was to build a place where people can exercise effectively and pleasantly by themselves, combining with OnFit's advanced check-up machines and exercise equipment.
Explore & Empathize
We found these problems and insight based on activities, interviews and desk research.
FACT
•About 10 percent of adults have experienced a gym, and more than 70 percent of them left within a month.
USER'S PAIN POINTS
•For novice users, they responded “Boredom, difficulty, and loss of motivation” were major reasons to leave a fitness club.
•Also, the quality of services varied depending on a trainer or a gym.
"Most users have left a gym before reaching the intermediate level"
To solve user's pain points, we explored a solution, value proposal and expected assessment from users.
THE PERSONA OF THE SERVICE WAS A SINGLE MAN:
• who was tech savvy
• who used to be fit as a fiddle but had no diet and workout experience.
• who wanted to avoid stress through face-to-face interaction.
Envisage
Under the solution and the goal "All people are able to start exercise without any hassle and complete it with satisfaction, leading to the next visit",
the competitiveness, strength, and KPI were decided.
The 3-D model of experience and user's journey were designed with three principles below.
Demarcated
•Smart start: sign up and health surveys via iPad and an active and joyful checkup.
•Rewarding exit: compensation as the rank rose.
Fulfilled
•My friendly online trainer gave a consultation based on the health condition.
•The reward was provided once the goal was achieved.
Integrated
•Well-organized exercise program: we designed a workout routine rooted in ACSM’s prescription. This integrated regimen let users follow the program effectively.
Experiment
A space for usability tests was built in the company.
Surveys were conducted to verify the business model and service value.
Execute
We developed the software and service with intimidate collaboration and
improved them by means of heuristic evaluation.
Quality tests for bug fixes and performance enhancements were implemented.
The Outcome
Grand opening for the prototype gym in Daejeon in Sep 2017
•70 percent of employees in Daejeon branch showed a willingness to use the gym.
•50 percent visited the gym and joined the service.
My own project reviews:
- It was exciting to design the O2O and health service, and I could understand the ACSM principle and the health industry quickly owing to the certificate “Human Engineering Technician”.
However, there are more assignments left.
(1) Hardware restraints: no sensors to monitor a user’s posture and movement and tapping an ID card to equipment was a burden way for authentication.
(2) I could not verify the service value and conduct data mining because my contract was terminated in August.
