The Platform | Android App and iOS App
The Goal
Conduct users and trend research for improvements of Seoul SOS app.
The Outcome
The conception of the service based on the persona and desk research was designed.
The Process & The Timeline
Why We Started the Project
"Hate crimes and random murders were severe and getting out of control: 55 cases in 2012 and 54 cases in 2013.
We had to take action to strengthen Seoul SOS app in order to aid people in danger."
Explore & Empathise
Desk Research
Reviews of other security apps were studied to identify pros and cons of them.
“False warning notifications distracted the police and families due to
human errors and detecting wrong movements.”
As a result, service reliability decreased.
Interviews
Interviews with women and disabled people were done.
People said that it was too late for running an app and reporting it
when they were being in danger.
This proved prevention was the top priority.
Envisage
We defined the main functions of the service, designed the concept, and presented the three versions of the main view of the app.
Identify main features through research, a survey, and a persona.
[Needs of prevention]
•Notifications when reaching dangerous areas.
•Sending user’s location to guardians.
•Searching my people’s location.
[Emergency detection]
•Messaging to guardians when a certain decibel was reached by yelling or crying, and specific actions were detected.
[Forgiveness]
•Before and after messaging, 15-second vibration let users sense and manage it.
Service Conception
The aim of Seoul SOS app was to improve crime prevention by offering customized safety solutions.
•Information about dangerous areas.
•Report emergency situations by shaking a smartphone.
•Constant updates of information by Seoul citizen's participation.
Three types of wireframes for the main view.
“The UI’s objective was that users could check the level of emergency in the current location immediately.”
A. Grid Type
The grid-type had the main concept of metro design.
✓ The Button area was easy to tab.
✓ Pictograms and typography were mainly utilized.
B. Tab View Type
The navigation bar consisted of the tab menu.
✓ Core content was focused.
✓Accessibility was ensured for moving among menus.
C. List Type
The list type provided crucial information quickly.
✓ A mini-map was on the main view.
The Evaluation
We received rave reviews for the research from stakeholders.
Stakeholders' requirements were delivered on time in spite of insufficient project duration and members.
